"Be an opener of doors"

Kitbashing: a practice whereby a new scale model is created by taking pieces out of commercial kits.
This is the process by which im building out the ship itself. Kitbashing is kind of nice with a couple of prebought kits, it allows for a lot of freedom to just snap together a level and have some aesthetic direction immediately, which ultimately is closer to a feel good thing than an actual necessity, but it keeps things interesting.

Since ultimately you won’t be viewing the ship from the outside, there’s a lot of freedom to play with the geometry of the ship itself, at least in this initial blocking phase, which is also convenient since a lot of the kit meshes dont necessarily line up. You can hide a lot of that outside of the visible level.

Ultimately, I’ll be changing the entire visual style, but well get there. For now, this will do.

Additionally, I manually added a horde to test out the mass AI and their individual collision. They’re still pretty dumb, and ultimately I need them to have a range finder to stop and shoot for some of them. Others are melee and will need to attack at close range.

Next steps with that are actual horde spawners and adding level wandering, they already interact correctly with the proximity doors, so that could be neat to see in a procgen dungeon. Maybe I’ll have them congregate, have some attraction to other enemies.
